Glen MacLeod, CPA, Chief Executive Officer
Mr. MacLeod has been associated with the firm since 1971. He became a partner in 1976 and is now the Chief Executive Officer of the firm. During his many years serving the New England banking community he has acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in all facets of community banking.
Mr. MacLeod possesses a high level of technical expertise in addition to his management capabilities. He has assisted clients in the launching of new institutions, mergers and acquisitions, stock conversions, the formation of holding companies and plays an important role in all of our client relationships.
Mr. MacLeod has taught at the AICPA National Banking School in Virginia. He is a member of the Massachusetts Society of CPA’s Banking Committee. He frequently speaks at functions held by banking associations throughout New England.
John Marsh, MBA, CPA, Partner
Mr. Marsh joined SMC in 1992. Prior to joining the firm he was President and CEO of a New England financial institution. Prior to that he was the Chief Financial Officer of a $500 million bank in New England. Mr. Marsh has over thirty years of experience in bank auditing, accounting, and operations, including extensive experience in the areas of loan review, loan policy implementation and loan documentation standards.
Kevin M. O’Brien, CPA, Partner
Mr. O’Brien joined SMC in 1989. Prior to joining the firm he was employed as an internal auditor for a Massachusetts financial institution. Mr. O’Brien oversees a number of our audit engagements.
Mr. O’Brien is also responsible for and has extensive knowledge in all phases of Employee Benefit Plan audits and agreed-upon-procedures for Trust Departments.
Joseph A. Jalbert, CPA, Partner
Mr. Jalbert joined SMC in 2002. He started his career at SMC after graduating from James Madison University.
Mr. Jalbert supervises a number of our audit engagements and assists in the training, supervision and professional development of our audit team members. Mr. Jalbert has also assisted numerous clients with mergers and acquisitions, and has extensive knowledge of SOX 404 and COSO reporting.
Thomas J. Jendrysik, CPA, Partner
Mr. Jendrysik manages our Internal Audit division. Prior to joining the firm, he spent over ten years as Internal Audit Manager for a $1 billion New England financial institution. Prior to that, he was with Ernst & Young. He is a member of the International Independent Auditors Association.
As manager of our Internal Audit division, Mr. Jendrysik is responsible for assisting our clients with the maximization of their internal audit structure. His division is also responsible for maintaining the independence between external and internal audit work demanded by recently amended FDIC regulations.
Mary Mottram, Manager
Ms. Mottram joined SMC in 1988 and has over twenty-six years of experience in public accounting. She is involved in each phase of the audit process, including planning for the engagement, preparation of client and audit committee communications, and review and finalization of our clients’ financial statements. She has primary responsibility for the oversight of Firm operations based in our West Peabody office and works closely with all areas of the Firm to ensure our clients’ needs are met and there is seamless integration throughout the Firm. She has also assisted in the preparation and review of many regulatory filings including initial public offerings.
Kevin Pelletier, CPA, Manager
Mr. Pelletier joined SMC in 2007. He has over 20 years experience in public accounting and corporate accounting.
Mr. Pelletier’s responsibilities primarily include client tax services.
Angelo Spaneas, CPA, Manager
Mr. Spaneas is a certified public accountant with over twenty years experience in the accounting profession, primarily in the financial services industry. His background includes community banks, investment advisors, as well as financial holding companies registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. He currently manages various audit engagements and is involved with training and staff development.
Mr. Spaneas was most recently the Director of Financial Reporting for a global financial services firm, and has held previous positions in public accounting.
A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of CPA’s, Angelo is a graduate of Bentley University.
John Fitzgibbons, CPA, Tax Manager
Mr. Fitzgibbons joined the firm in 1997. He has extensive experience in tax planning for financial institutions and has prepared numerous state and federal tax returns for our clients. He has assisted our clients in preparing for and responding to audits by the Internal Revenue Service and state revenue authorities.
Mr. Fitzgibbons takes responsibility for the day-to-day management of each tax engagement to which he is assigned, from the tax planning process through preparation of tax returns.
John Knoblock, CPA, Audit Senior
Mr. Knoblock joined SMC in 2014. He is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and was employed at a New England – based regional public accounting firm prior to joining SMC.
Mr. Knoblock supervises a number of our audit engagements and assists in the training and professional development of our audit staff. He has extensive bank auditing experience, with expertise in the allowance for loan losses and SOX 404 reporting.
Jordin Milano, Audit Senior
Ms. Milano has been with SMC since 2011. She attended the University of Tennessee for four years and is a graduate of Salem State University.
Ms. Milano assists in the training and professional development of our audit staff. She has extensive experience in the areas of loan review and the allowance for loan losses.
Philip M. Cronin, CISA, CISSP, Principal
Mr. Cronin has over 15 years of experience in Information Technology with the last 10 years dedicated to infrastructure and network security. Mr. Cronin has served over 50 financial institutions in the New England area ranging from de novo institutions to banks in excess of $3 billion in assets. As an IT security specialist, Mr. Cronin has partnered with senior management and audit committees in improving management oversight and control and ensuring IT regulatory compliance.
Mr. Cronin joined the firm in 2006 and currently leads SMC’s IT Risk Assurance and Compliance Management group. Prior to Shatswell, Mr. Cronin spent much of his career at Bell Labs (Lucent Technologies and AT&T). In his last assignment, he was responsible for IT infrastructure design, operations and network security in the Optical Networking R&D Division supporting over 500 people on three continents. Other positions include Polar Cove (a firm specializing in IT regulatory compliance), WISeKey (a provider of high-security and PKI services), and uB‑mobile (a company developing and operating mobile and secure web products).
Mr. Cronin has extensive experience in IT infrastructure and network auditing including network scanning and vulnerability assessments, IT control assessments, electronic banking application assessments as well as external network penetration testing and web application testing. Mr. Cronin is a Qualys certified specialist in Vulnerability Management.
Mr. Cronin holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as well as a second Master’s Degree in Software Engineering.
Mr. Cronin is a certified information systems security professional (CISSP) and a certified information systems auditor (CISA).
